CalcWorks

About CalcWorks

CalcWorks is a free collection of calculators for construction and home-improvement projects: lumber, concrete, paint, tile, drywall, landscaping material, fencing and roofing. It exists because most material mistakes are arithmetic mistakes — a slab ordered a yard short, a fence missing its last post, a paint run that ends one gallon early.

How the calculators are built

Each calculator starts from the formula or published table the trade itself uses, and we say which: lumber volumes follow the National Hardwood Lumber Association board-foot formula; concrete bag counts use the yields printed in the QUIKRETE Concrete Mix technical data sheet; gravel weights use aggregate densities from quarry and state DOT tables; roofing uses standard framing geometry. Every figure is then tested against hand-worked examples before the page ships.

Every calculator page shows three things alongside the tool itself: the formula, so you can see exactly what is being computed; a worked example with real numbers, so you can follow the arithmetic; and a reference chart, so common cases are answered without touching the calculator at all.

What CalcWorks is not

These are planning estimates, not engineering. Structural questions — slab thickness and reinforcement, footing sizes, roof loads, retaining walls — belong to your local building code and a licensed professional. Use our numbers to plan, budget and order; use your code book and your inspector for the decisions that carry weight.

Free to use — supported by advertising

CalcWorks is free: no accounts, no subscriptions, no paywalls, and every calculator is the full version. The site is paid for by advertising served by Google AdSense. Ads appear alongside the tools, never inside a result, and advertisers have no influence on any formula, table or figure. Our privacy policy explains the advertising cookies involved and how to opt out of personalized advertising.

Corrections

If you spot a figure that does not match a published reference, we want to know. Reach us through the contact page with the calculator name and the source we should check against, and we will verify and fix it.
